Breakfast: Why It’s so Important?

The term says it all: breakfast means BREAKing the FASTing after waking from a night’s sleep. Whether it is at 7 or 11 a.m., breakfast is the first meal that we put in our body. Therefore, no matter what time it is, we need to make sure that we make this meal count.

Why Is Breakfast So Important?

For years, health experts have talked about the importance of this meal, oftentimes calling it “the most important meal of the day”.

According to Cleveland Clinic Health Essentials, eating breakfast gives us the energy that we need to perform optimally during our day. It also helps us be more awake, focused and happy. Furthermore, it decreases our risk of Type 2 diabetes and improves our heart health.

According to research published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, people who skipped breakfast had an 87 percent higher chance of dying from cardiovascular disease compared to those who ate breakfast every day.

Nevertheless, it is important that our breakfast includes foods that are nutritionally dense and impactful.

Below you will find some great breakfast options to start your day off right.

Easy & Nutritious Breakfast Ideas

People who skip breakfast usually mention reasons such as not having enough time to prepare it or because they don’t feel hungry in the morning. This is what I have to say about that: No more excuses! Here is a list of easy, nutritious and delicious breakfast ideas that don’t require much prep time and will make you feel satisfied.

  • Mango topped with cottage cheese and a sprinkle of cinnamon.

  • Sliced papaya topped with greek yogurt, a drizzle of honey and a sprinkle of cacao nibs. You can also add sliced almonds & bananas.

  • Nutty-fruity cereal: apple chunks, walnuts, pepitas, blueberries, almond milk with a drizzle of honey on top.

  • Avocado toast: top with hot pepper flakes, a drizzle of honey or olive oil, salt and pepper.  If you’ve got extra time you can add an egg, YUM!

  • Peanut butter toast with a sprinkle of cinnamon. (raw peanut butter and sprouted bread, of course)

When it comes to breakfast, just think of the three magic words: make. it. count.
